Abstract

The emergence of degenerative diseases can be triggered by increasing free radicals. Antioxidants are compounds that can inhibit free radical reactions. Not many people know about the use of red palm fruit because this plant is used as an ornamental plant. Even though red palm fruit is a source of exogenous antioxidants from natural ingredients. This research aims to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds and antioxidant activity of dichloromethane subfractionate of red palm fruit using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method using 5 test concentrations and 3 replications with positive control (ɑ-tocopherol). The antioxidant test results were analyzed using the One Way Anova method and continued with the Ducan test. The test results show that red palm fruit has antioxidant activity, this occurs because DPPH is reduced, causing electrons to pair up, causing a color change in DPPH. From the results of the antioxidant activity test, it can be concluded that dichloromethane subfractionate has secondary metabolites that have potential as antioxidants.
