Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the level of voter participation in the simultaneous village head elections in Sengkati Baru Village, Mersam District, and to find out the factors that influence the community's participation or not to participate in the simultaneous village head elections in Sengkati Baru Village, Mersam District in 2021. This type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research location was carried out in Batanghari Regency, Mersam District, to be precise, namely in Sengkati Baru Village, where the level of participation was considered to be less than optimal. The data collection technique is by interviewing, in which the process of obtaining explanations for collecting information by using a question and answer method to informants or interviewees is based on qualitative data obtained based on facts stored in material in the form of documents. The results of the study show that the level of participation of the people in the village of Sengkang Baru is not optimal. Factors causing people not to participate in giving their voting rights are 1) lack of political awareness 2) lack of trust in the previous government 3) people are not in their voting areas.
