Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University in Academic Year 2017/2018. First supervisor: Drs. Adrefiza, M.A., Ph.D and second supervisor: Melati, S.Pd., M.C.C Key words: female, suggestion, strategies, EFL learners,DCT This research describes the using of suggestion strategies among female students of English study program in Jambi University. Suggestion is one of speech acts that is frequently used in daily conversation. In this research, a descriptive analysis was used as the method. Martinez-Flor’s taxonomy was used in this research to analyze the topic under investigation. The data were collected by using oral Discourse Completion Task (DCT). Then they were analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The researcher recorded the responses from the participants and transcribed it as a written data form. The findings show that the participants used more indirect strategies than conventionalized and direct strategies. It proofs that female Indonesian EFL learners in Jambi University prefer to give suggestion in a roundabout way to their peers. Moreover, the data reveal information on how the suggestions is given by females, conceptually and verbally, among peers.
