Abstract
Latar Belakang : Kanker merupakan penyakit atau gangguan yang disebabkan oleh pembelahan sel yang abnormal dimana sel kanker akan terus menerus mengalami pertumbuhan yang tidak terkendali. Penggunaan tumbuhan sebagai obat tidak dapat dipisahkan dengan masyarakat serta menjadi solusi yang digunakan untuk pengobatan kanker. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi senyawa flavonoid yang terkandung dalam ekstrak serta mengkaji tingkat toksisitas dari ekstrak ubi jalar merah, ubi jalar kuning dan ubi jalar ungu terhadap larva Artemia salina Leach dengan metode Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). Metode : Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) dengan ketiga ekstrak dan kalium dikromat sebagai kontrol positif. Masing-masing dibuat larutan uji dan larutan pembanding dengan berbagai seri konsentrasi (100, 200, 400, 600, 800 ppm) dengan tiga kali pengulangan. Masing- masing larutan uji dan larutan pembanding membutuhkan 10 ekor larva Artemia salina. Hasil : Hasil evaluasi flavonoid total ekstrak metanol ubi jalar merah, ubi jalar kuning dan ubi jalar ungu mengandung positif flavonoid berturut turut sebesar 0,90%; 1,6%; dan 1,17%. Hasil analisis probit menunjukkan nilai LC50 dari ekstrak metanol ubi jalar merah, ubi jalar kuning dan ubi jalar ungu yang bersifat toksik berturut-turut sebesar 75,629 ppm, 87,771 ppm dan 76,394 ppm. Kesimpulan : Hasil ekstrak metanol ubi jalar merah, ubi jalar kuning dan ubi jalar ungu memiliki senyawa flavonoid yang berpotensi sebagai antikanker dan berpotensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai agen antikanker karena memiliki nilai LC< 1000 ppm. Kata kunci : Ubi jalar, Sitotoksik, Artemia salina Leach, Brine Shrimp Lethality Test Background : Cancer is a disease or disorder caused by abnormal cell division where cancer cells will continue to experience uncontrolled growth. The use of plants as medicine cannot be separated from society and is a solution used for cancer treatment. This study aims to evaluate the flavonoid compounds contained in the extracts and to assess the level of toxicity of red sweet potato, yellow sweet potato and purple sweet potato extracts to Artemia salina Leach larvae using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Method : This research was conducted using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method with the three extracts and potassium dichromate as positive controls. Each test solution and reference solution were made with various concentration series (100, 200, 400, 600, 800 ppm) with three repetitions. Each test solution and reference solution required 10 Artemia salina larvae. Results : The results of total flavonoid evaluation of the methanol extract of red sweet potato, yellow sweet potato and purple sweet potato contained positive flavonoids respectively of 0.90%; 1.6%; and 1.17%. The results of the probit analysis showed that the LC50 values of the methanol extracts of red sweet potato, yellow sweet potato and purple sweet potato which were toxic were 75.629 ppm, 87.771 ppm and 76.394 ppm, respectively. Conclusion : The results of the methanol extract of red sweet potato, yellow sweet potato and purple sweet potato have flavonoid compounds that have potential as anticancer and have the potential to be developed as anticancer agents because they have an LC value of <1000 ppm.
