Abstract

This study to identify students' anxiety in speaking English and strategies to overcome anxiety in speaking English in the second semester of the English education study program at the University of Jambi. This research was conducted at the Jambi of University. A total of 22 students were selected as the participants. This research is intended to find out the factors of students' anxiety in speaking English and strategies to overcome it. This study used a qualitative method. Data collected from observation and semi-structured interviews. The results of this study showed that the anxiety factors that students feel when they speak English include; nervous, lack-confident, lack-vocabulary, fear of evaluation and comments from other people, and lack of preparation. The strategies used by students to overcome anxiety in speaking English include; preparation, self-confidence, and relaxation. Keywords: Students anxiety, factors, strategies
