Abstract
Ultisols are classified as marginal lands with low productivity levels and low organic matter content. Ultisols experience problems, from the physical properties of the soil, including soil density. One of the soil amendments that can be used to improve soil density is by adding biochar. Biochar that has been applied, one year later still has a residual effect on plant growth and yield. Domestic soybean production is not sufficient for Indonesia's needs, which still require import substitution. This study aims to determine and study the effect of coffee coolant biochar residue on Ultisol density and yield of soybean (Glycine max L.). This research was in the form of an experiment (experiment) using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications, so there were 24 experimental plots. The size of the experimental plot was 3m x 2m with a spacing of 30 cm x 25 cm so that the number of plants in one plot was 80 plants. This research was carried out in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jambi, from November 2022 to February 2023. The parameters observed were organic matter, volume weight, penetration resistance, moisture content, and soybean growth and yield. The observed data were then analyzed using variance and the DMRT test. The results of this study indicated that coffee husk biochar residues in the second growing season at a dose of 25 tons/ha tended to decrease soil density and increase soil organic matter content compared to no treatment and there was no visible effect of coffee husk biochar residues on soybean yields in the second growing season.
