Abstract

Application of the Problem Based Learning Model as an Effort to Improve the Critical Thinking Ability of Class VIII students on Respiratory System Material Abstract: This research aims to determine the effect of implementing problem based learning as an effort to improve the critical thinking skills of class VIII SMP students on the respiratory system, using E-LKPD which has been developed previously and declared valid by the validator. This research is considered a quasi-experimental research using a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all class VIII junior high school students at SMPN 15 Tebo Regency. The research samples taken were class VIII.A as the experimental class and VIII.B as the control class. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Critical thinking ability data is collected using tests in the form of essay questions. The data analysis technique was carried out using the independent sample T-test. The validation results by material experts and media experts stated that E-LKPD was very valid with validity of 88.33% and 95.58% respectively with the category suitable for use. The effectiveness of E-LKPD after being implemented shows that students' critical thinking abilities have increased by obtaining a Cohen's d value of 1.0 through formula calculations and calculations. These results were then interpreted to show that the use of problem-based E-LKPD on critical thinking skills in this study had an effect in the high category with a percentage of 84%. The conclusion is that E-LKPD based on Problem Based Learning can be used as a learning medium to improve students' critical thinking skills in science learning, especially material on the respiratory system.
