Abstract

The purpose of this quantitative research to describe what students’ vocabulary learning strategies are applied in the digital era and to investigate if there is any difference between male and female students in applying vocabulary learning strategies in the digital era. The population was taken from SMP 18 Jambi City class IX. The population are 255 students. The sample was taken using simple random sampling. The sample used in the study were 72 students from class IX.B, IX.C and IX.D. To collect data, the researcher used survey method by giving questionnaire. Then, in data analysis using descriptive statistics to analyze students’ vocabulary learning strategies and gender differences using SPSS 25 (Statistical Product for Service Solution). The result of the research shows the most frequently strategy used by students is determination strategies and the least frequently strategy is memory strategies. And also the result shows that Sig. (2-tailed) appearance is 0.00, which is smaller than 0.05 based on data analysis and result of hypothesis calculations, it is known that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected, and the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. Based on the result that is collected after conducting this research, here are the results: (1) The most frequently strategy used by students is determination strategies and the least frequently strategy used by students is memory strategies. (2) only in cognitive strategy showed a statistically significant between male and famale, it means females more using cognitive strategies than males in vocabulary learning strategy in the digital era.
