Abstract

This study was to determine the effect of cooking temperature in the pulping process on the quality of pulp and paper and to obtain the best cooking temperature in the pulping process on the quality of pulp and paper. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications to obtain 21 experimental units. The results of this study showed that the effect of cooking temperature on the pulping process of palm empty fruit bunch fiber on pulp and paper quality had a significant effect on pulp yield, pulp moisture content, pulp cellulose content, pulp lignin content, pulp ash content, paper water content, paper grammage, paper thickness and paper tensile resistance. Treatment of 135oC is the best treatment in pulp and paper production by producing a pulp yield value of 27,8%, pulp moisture content of 5,89%, pulp hemicellulose content of 9,83%, pulp cellulose content of 62,46%, pulp lignin content of 8,37%, pulp ash content was 1,42%, paper moisture content was 5,25%, paper grammage was 76 g/m2, paper thickness was 0,08 mm, tensile strength was 0,81 kN/m and tear resistance was 352,4 mN.
