Abstract
Vocabulary is one of the important elements of the language. Mastery of vocabulary supports students to be able to master 4 skills in English, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In this technology era, it is suitable if we use digital-based learning media for learning. One of the digital-based learning media is YouTube Videos. Using video on YouTube can create an atmosphere in the learning process more enjoyable, meaningful, also the students could learn vocabulary based on their interest by watching the video. So, students find it easier to remember the material. This research aimed to find out whether students who were taught using YouTube videos could improve their vocabulary mastery compared to students who were not taught using YouTube video media in Class VIII SMPN 8 Muaro Jambi. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population was taken from SMPN 8 Muaro Jambi Class VIII Students. The samples used in this research were 30 students in Class VIII C and 30 students in Class VIII D. To collect the data, the researcher used an instrument test, namely the pre-test and post-test. Furthermore, to analysed it, the researcher used the T-test formula to determine whether there was a significant effect of using YouTube videos between students who learned to use YouTube videos and those who did not use YouTube videos. Based on the results that are collected after conducted this research, the results of the research show that Sig. (2-tailed) appearance is 0.00, which is smaller than 0.05. Based on data analysis and results of hypothesis calculations, it is known that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted here are the results: (1) there is a significant effect of using YouTube videos toward vocabulary mastery on students in the experimental class. (2) students’ English Vocabulary learning using YouTube videos is more effective than without using YouTube videos.
