Abstract
This research focuses on metaphorical translation strategies in Lucy M. Montgomery's "Anne of Green Gables" and Maria M. Lubis' Indonesian version. Based on the theories of Newmark (1988), Lakoff, and Johnson (1980), 53 metaphors are identified and classified using qualitative approaches and textual analysis. The translator applies five major strategies: reproducing the same image, replacing with a standard image, maintaining with a simile, transforming into non-metaphor words, and deletion. The study emphasizes the novel's variety of metaphors and the importance of selecting proper translation strategies to achieve clarity and purpose. Furthermore, this study adds to our understanding of the difficulties of metaphorical translation in literary contexts.
