Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the teaching strategy used by EFL teachers in implementing the The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum . Not only that , the process of implementation and several problems in implementing the The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum were also investigated in the present study. Some data collection in the qualitative method was used in this study , such as; observation and semi-structured interviews . Meanwhile , the data were gathered through observation sheets , field notes, and interview guidelines . The findings showed 3 teaching strategies to implement the The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum such as; 1) inquiry teaching strategy , 2) contextual teaching strategy , and 3) differentiated teaching strategy. Thus, this study found if the EFL teachers had implemented a differentiated learning process in the classroom to improve the student's English language skills. In response to that matter, this study also uncovered several problems felt by EFL teachers in implementing the The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum , namely; 1) the lack of knowledge and skills of teachers due to lack of socialization , 2) the lack of digital literacy skills of teachers , 3) the lack of teacher knowledge related to applications that support learning , 4) the difficulty of understanding the diversity of student ability levels and conducting diagnostic assessments in the The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum , 5) the lack of learning facilities and infrastructure available for skill development , and 6) the difficulty of understanding the diversity of student ability levels and conducting diagnostic assessments in the The Merdeka Belajar Curriculum . several recommendations for improvement are also discussed in the present study.
