Abstract

ABSTRACT SEPTIAWAN. WAWAN (2023) : The Implementation of English Teaching and Learning to Students of Sport Education Program : A Case Study at A Higher Education Institution in Sungai Penuh in Academic Year 2022/2023. The First Supervisor is Drs. Marzul Hidayat, M.A., Ph.D and The Second Supervisor is Dr. Nunung Fajaryani, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords : English Teaching, English Learning, English Teaching and Learning English is an international language that students must master to be able to compete in globalization. English ability is not only about daily conversation but is more focused on the scientific discipline possessed by a student.This study explained the English teaching and learning to students of Sports Education Study Program of a higher education institution Sungai Penuh to perceive their English abilities. The study was designed in a case study. It conducted at students of Sport Education Study at a higher education institution in Sungai Penuh. There were 5 (five) participants involved in this research. They are 3 students of sport education study program, 1 English lecturer and 1 (one) head of study program. Instrumentations of this study were class observation, interview and document analysis. Based on data collection and data analysis, it was discovered that the lecturer implemented the English language learning process without using conventional techniques. It means that the learning process in class has implemented several media such as videos, images and other teaching media to support English learning activities in the class. in other hand, implementation English Teaching at students of Sport Education Program Study implemented general English (GE) as teaching approach. Beside that, the students enjoyed to study English but they recognized have low English proficiency. So that, it felt hard to create active and communicative in English course. there was a great desire for students to be able to communiacte in English and they can identify vocabularies about sport but she recognized that it would be difficult because the students’ abilities need improvement. There was still a lot of aspects need to be improved such as vocabulary, pronunciation and students’ own courage in speaking English.
