Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian kualitatif ini adalah untuk mengetahui kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh siswa kelas IX SMP Islam AL FALAH Jambi, dan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan kesulitan-kesulitan tersebut. Dalam melakukan penelitian, peneliti memilih subjek penelitian dengan menggunakan kriteria pemilihan melalui nilai harian dari guru berdasarkan nilai terendah. Terdapat 10 partisipan dari 5 kelas yang berbeda yang berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini dan mereka memenuhi kriteria inklusi dalam penelitian ini, serta bersedia berpartisipasi secara sukarela dalam penelitian ini. Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan wawancara. Peneliti menggunakan analisis data kualitatif Miles dan Huberman (1984) untuk menganalisis data dari para partisipan. Miles dan Huberman (1984) mengidentifikasi tiga langkah selanjutnya dalam analisis data: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 3 tema mengenai kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa kelas 9 dalam mempelajari kosakata baru, yaitu: 1) Kesulitan dalam melafalkan kosakata baru. 2) Kesulitan dalam mengeja kosakata baru. 3) Kesulitan dalam mengartikan kosakata baru. Penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa terdapat faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan kesulitan siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata yaitu faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal: sikap siswa. Faktor eksternal: jumlah siswa di kelas, waktu belajar yang terbatas, dan eksposur. The purpose of this qualitative research is to find out the difficulties faced by class IX students of AL FALAH Jambi Islamic Junior High School, and to identify the factors that cause these difficulties. In conducting the study, the researcher selected the research subjects using selection criteria through daily grades from the teacher based on the lowest score. There were 10 participants from 5 different classes who participated in this study and they fulfilled the inclusive criteria for this study, and were willing to voluntarily participate in this study. In collecting data, the researcher used interviews. The researcher used Miles and Huberman's (1984) qualitative data analysis to analyse the data from the participants. Miles and Huberman (1984) identified three next steps in data analysis: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that there were 3 themes on what are the difficulties faced by Grade 9 students in learning new vocabulary namely : 1) Difficulty in pronouncing new vocabulary. 2) Difficulty in spelling new vocabulary. 3) Difficulty in meaning new vocabulary. This study also revealed that there are factors that cause students' difficulties in learning vocabulary are internal and external factors. Internal factors: students' attitudes. External factors: the number of students in the class, limited learning time, and exposure.
