Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe the students’ problems in writing undergraduate thesis and to explain the factor causes students problems in writing it. The researcher applied the descriptive qualitative method design which used an interview and a questionnaire as instruments to collecting the data. The sample of this research was the students of English study program in Jambi University at academic year of 2017. The results of respondents showed that student lacks of several aspects that include in the internal and external factors such as self-esteem, lack of motivations, had anxiety, and had difficulty in job and career. There are several findings of the lack of self-esteem, 58% students who do not fully comprehend the systematics of writing the undergraduate thesis according to the guidebook, 80% students who have difficulty writing an undergraduate thesis based on English grammar correctly, 60% students who have difficulty to choose vocabulary or spelling in writing, 60% students who feel bored or lazy to read some references to enrich knowledge for writing an undergraduate thesis, 58,8% students who feel bored or lazy to read references and writing an undergraduate thesis as lack of motivation, 56,9% students who have a part-time job during the process of working on undergraduate thesis as having problem in job career. the researcher concluded that the factor of the students’ problem on writing thesis were from the internal factor the students was lack of Self-Esteem, anxiety and also motivation as a students’ problem.
