Abstract
The objective of this research is to describe the students’ problems in writing undergraduate thesis and to explain the factor causes students problems in writing it. The researcher applied the descriptive qualitative method design which used an interview and a questionnaire as instruments to collecting the data. The sample of this research was the students of English study program in Jambi University at academic year of 2017. The researcher took 50 numbers of students as sample with used purposive technic sampling. The results of respondents showed that student lacks of several aspects that include in the internal and external factors such as self-esteem, lack of motivations, had anxiety, and had difficulty in job and career. There are several findings of the lack of self-esteem, 58% students who do not fully comprehend the systematics of writing the undergraduate thesis according to the guidebook, 80% students who have difficulty writing an undergraduate thesis based on English grammar correctly, 60% students who have difficulty to choose vocabulary or spelling in writing, 60% students who feel bored or lazy to read some references to enrich knowledge for writing an undergraduate thesis, 58,8% students who feel bored or lazy to read references and writing an undergraduate thesis as lack of motivation, 56,9% students who have a part-time job during the process of working on undergraduate thesis as having problem in job career. the researcher concluded that the factor of the students’ problem on writing thesis were from the internal factor the students was lack of Self-Esteem, anxiety and also motivation as a students’ problem. Beside that from the external factor the students’ was faced job and career factor. The researcher suggested that students improve their time management working on their job, skills on writing their thesis, consult and question their supervisor more frequently and better to finish your revision first than you may take a rest. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan masalah mahasiswa dalam menulis skripsi sarjana dan menjelaskan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan masalah tersebut. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan wawancara dan kuesioner sebagai instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data. Sampel penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa program studi Bahasa Inggris Universitas Jambi pada tahun ajaran 2017. Peneliti mengambil 50 mahasiswa sebagai sampel dengan menggunakan teknik pengambilan sampel secara purposive. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa kekurangan beberapa aspek yang termasuk dalam faktor internal dan eksternal, seperti:Kurang Percaya Diri: 58% mahasiswa tidak sepenuhnya memahami sistematika penulisan skripsi sarjana sesuai pedoman.Kurang Motivasi: 80% mahasiswa kesulitan menulis skripsi sarjana berdasarkan tata bahasa Inggris dengan benar, 60% mahasiswa kesulitan memilih kosakata atau ejaan dalam tulisan, 60% mahasiswa merasa bosan atau malas membaca beberapa referensi untuk memperkaya pengetahuan dalam penulisan skripsi sarjana, 58,8% mahasiswa merasa bosan atau malas membaca referensi dan menulis skripsi sarjana karena kurang motivasi.Kecemasan: 56,9% mahasiswa memiliki pekerjaan paruh waktu selama proses pengerjaan skripsi sarjana sehingga bermasalah dengan karier kerja.Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa faktor masalah mahasiswa dalam menulis skripsi berasal dari faktor internal, yaitu kurangnya rasa percaya diri, kecemasan, dan juga motivasi. Selain itu, faktor eksternal yang dihadapi mahasiswa adalah pekerjaan dan karier. Peneliti menyarankan agar mahasiswa: Memperbaiki manajemen waktu dalam mengerjakan pekerjaan dan skripsi.Meningkatkan keterampilan menulis skripsi. Lebih sering berkonsultasi dan bertanya kepada pembimbing. Menyelesaikan revisi terlebih dahulu sebelum beristirahat. Saya harap terjemahan ini lebih jelas dan mudah dipahami.
