Abstract

Spodosol is a soil formed from quartz sand as the parent material, characterized by a layer of white-grey acid sand (E-albic horizon) and a horizon of accumulation of iron, aluminum and/or organic material (spodic layer). Land use can affect soil fertility levels, especially from the chemical properties of spodosol soil. Spodosol is less fertile soil, the choice of the type of HTI plant that will be cultivated really depends on its adaptability. One of them is that the Eucalyptus plant has good adaptability to less fertile soil. Therefore, it is necessary to observe the chemical properties of spodosol in order to improve soil fertility. This research was conducted for 3 months, starting from February to April 2023, located in District 1, Betara District, West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province. The research carried out was a field survey research with a working area of ±326.4 ha. Point determination and sampling were carried out using a soil drill using the stratified random sampling method. Soil sampling was carried out at four locations, namely in conservation forests as a control and Eucalyptus fields aged 1, 2 and 3 years, each with 8 samples. The variables observed were pH, C-organic, N-total, P-total, K-total, Al-dd and CEC. The research results show that the chemical properties of spodosol at this research location include high soil pH due to the presence of an E-albic horizon in the upper layer and a B-spodic horizon in the lower layer which has high organic matter in line with the CEC and Al-dd valu. Spodosol merupakan tanah yang terbentuk dari bahan induk pasir kuarsa, memiliki ciri adanya lapisan pasir masam berwarna putih abu-abu (horizon E- albik) dan horizon berupa akumulasi besi, alumunium dan/atau bahan organik (lapisan spodik). Penggunaan lahan dapat mempengaruhi tingkat kesuburan tanah terutama dari sifat kimia tanah spodosol. Spodosol merupakan tanah yang kurang subur, pemilihan jenis tanaman HTI yang akan diusahakan sangat bergantung pada kemampuan adaptasinya. Salah satunya tanaman Eucalyptus mempunyai adaptibilitas yang baik pada tanah-tanah yang kurang subur. Oleh karena itu, perlu diamati sifat kimia spodosol agar dapat memperbaiki kesuburan tanahnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 3 bulan, dimulai pada bulan Februari sampai bulan April 2023, berlokasi Di Distrik 1, Kecamatan Betara, Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat, Provinsi Jambi. Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan penelitian survei lapangan dengan luas area kerja ±326,4 ha. Penentuan titik dan pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan bor tanah dengan metode stratified random sampling. Pengambilan sampel tanah dilakukan pada empat lokasi yaitu pada hutan konservasi sebagai kontrol dan lahan Eucalyptus umur 1, 2 dan 3 tahun masing- masing 8 sampel. Variabel yang diamati pH, C-organik, N-total, P-total, K-total, Al-dd dan KTK. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sifat kimia spodosol pada lokasi penelitian ini diantaranya tingginya pH tanah disebabkan adanya horizon E-albik dilapisan atas dan horizon B-spodik dilapisan bawah yang memiliki bahan organik yang tinggi sejalan dengan nilai KTK dan Al-dd.
