Abstract

An experiment to study the effect of 2,4-D and BAP concentrations on growth and develop¬ment of axillary bud culture of pineapple crown was conducted at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jambi. Four levels of 2,4-D (0.0, 0.005, 0.045, 0.452µM) and four levels of BAP (0.0, 0.444, 4,439, 44,393µM) were used to induce the growth and development of the explants. The experiment was arranged in a factorial completely randomized design with 5 replicates. The result indicated that the presence either 2,4-D or BAP in culture medium did not affect leaf number. No callus proliferation was observed until the end of the experiment. Each explants cultured on all treatments regenerated only one terminal shoot. Whereas root proliferation occured only on medium treated with with 0,452µM 2,4-D without BAP, which regenerated the intact plants.
