Abstract

Ethnobotany is a branch of botany that explores the use of plants both in part and as a whole based on local knowledge by a community. One of the ethnicities that use plants is the Bugis Tribe. This research is a type of qualitative and quantitative research. This study aims to determine the types of plants used by the Bugis Tribe community in medicine, find out the parts of plants used, how to use a plant, and know the use value index. The methods used in obtaining data are by observation, interviews, participatory observation, documentation, and making herbariums. The interview involved key respondents and general respondents. The technique of selecting respondents is snowball and purposive sampling techniques. Data is analyzed in a qualitative descriptive manner as well as quantitative data presented in the form of tables and percentages. The results showed that there were 34 species of plants used by the Bugis Tribe in Kota Raja Village as medicinal plants. The use of plants can be used directly or by blending. Ingredients can be done through mashing, boiling, brewing, and kneading. The highest use value index (UV) is in shallots (Allium cepa) which is used as a medicine for fever, cough, and smallpox. Family Arecaceae and Family Zingiberaceae are the most common families with 4 species each in each family.
