Abstract
ABSTRACTBackground: Appendicitis is an inflammation of the vermiform appendix or worm tuft that occurs due to a blockage in the lumen of the appendix caused by fecaliths, lymph tissue hyperplasia, or tumors,and various infections by pathogens. If this inflammation is not treated immediately, it will increase the risk of complications such as perforation. Objectives:This study aimsto determine the characteristics of pediatric surgical patients with appendicitis at Raden Mattaher Regional Hospital in 2019-2022. Methods:This research is a descriptive study with a retrospective approach using secondary data in medical record data from Raden Mattaher Regional Hospital.Result:Based on research conducted, it is known that the majority of appendicitis sufferers are in the 10-19 year age group (68.7%) with an average value of 13, a median value of 13, and a mode of 16. The majority are male (53.1 % ); thehighest PAS score was in the ≥ 6 groups(82.8%), with a mean score of 7.5, a median score of 8, and a mode of 9. The most common types of appendicitis were acute appendicitis (53.1%) and surgical type.It was found that laparoscopic appendectomy was frequently performed (54.7%).Conclusion:The description of the characteristics of most respondents in the 10-19 year age group was male, with a PAS score ≥ 6, type of acute appendicitis, and type of laparoscopic appendectomy surgery.Keywords:Appendicitis, Age, Gender, PAS value, Type of appendicitis, Type of surgery
