Abstract
Oil palm plants (Elais guineensis) are known to be world oil producing plants, but tend to be affected by leaf spot disease, which is caused by the fungus Curvularia sp. One effective way to deal with leaf spot disease is biologically with biological control using antagonistic fungi. Trichoderma sp. is an antagonistic fungus that is known to be able to inhibit various types of plant diseases, one of which is leaf spot disease caused by the fungus Curvularia sp. The aim of this research was to determine the ability of Trichoderma sp. in inhibiting Curvularia sp., and knowing the effectiveness value of Trichoderma sp. in inhibiting Curvularia sp. The research was conducted in November-December 2023. This research was carried out in the Agroindustry, Medicinal Plants and Biotechnology laboratory, Faculty of Science and Technology, Jambi University. Samples of oil palm plants are located in Lubuk Madrasah village, Tengah Ilir District, Tebo Regency, Jambi. This research was carried out in several stages, namely, taking oil palm leaves infected with Curvularia sp., isolating the pathogen using PDA media, testing the antagonist of the fungus Trichoderma sp. against Curvularia sp. The research results showed that Trichoderma sp. has the ability to inhibit the growth of the fungus Curvularia sp. by suppressing the growth of the fungus Curvularia sp. through competition mechanisms. Apart from that, the Trichoderma sp fungus also inhibits the growth of Curvularia sp. microparasitism by destroying the hyphae of Curvularia sp. Effectiveness of Trichoderma sp. in inhibiting the fungus Curvularia sp. included in the high category with an average effectiveness value of 63.21%.
