Abstract
This research aimed at investigating teacher’s problems in teaching listening. This research conducted as descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling technique. The participant of this research was English teacher at Junior High School II Sarolangun. The result shows that there were some problems in teaching listening. They were students’ problem such as having low English vocabulary, never learn it before, having less motivation, too shy, too enthusiastic so they forget the written structure, different culture, the last was the problem of physical setting, there were no/limited listening media such as tape recorder, earphone or headphone. To overcome those problems, the participant shared some strategies, they are; using more attractive media such as story, music and pictures to catch the students’ attention as the way to increase students’ motivation in learning English especially in listening, inviting students to study outside, such as at library or a park to get a better feel in study English listening; the participant was becoming the speaker in teaching listening as the way out for the problem of physical setting and the students would directly listen to the teacher without any listening tools.
