Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbandingan serat pelepah dan serat sabut pinang terhadap karakteristik kertas yang dihasilkan, serta untuk mendapatkan perbandingan yang tepat antara serat pelepah dan serat sabut pinang yang menghasilkan kertas yang berkualitas baik. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 1 faktor perlakuan yang terdiri dari 5 taraf perlakuan perbandingan bahan baku serat pelepah pinang dan serat sabut pinang yaitu ( 0% : 100%, 25% : 75%, 50% : 50%, 75% : 25%, 100% : 0% ) dengan 4 kali pengulangan sehingga diperoleh 20 unit percobaan. Analisis data menggunakan Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), apabila hasil berbeda nyata maka dilakukan uji lanjut dengan metode Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbandingan serat pelepah pinang dan serat sabut pinang berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar air serat, rendemen serat, kadar hemiselulosa serat, kadar lignin serat, kadar selulosa serat, kadar abu serat, kadar air kertas, ketahanan tarik kertas dan ketahanan sobek kertas. Namun tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap nilai gramatur kertas, dan ketebalan kertas. Karakteristik serat dan kertas yang dihasilkan dari pelepah pinang dan sabut pinang yaitu nilai kadar air serat 5,8-7%, rendemen serat 29,7-47,8%, kadar hemiselulosa serat 15,4-25,8%, kadar lignin serat 19,4-38,3%, kadar selulosa 18,3-48,9%, nilai kadar air kertas 4,0-6,1%, gramatur 63,9-68,9g/m2, ketebalan kertas 0,162-0,211 mm, ketahanan tarik kertas 0,01-0,05 kN/m, dan ketahanan sobek kertas 108,4-187,3 mN. This research aims to determine the effect of the ratio of frond fiber and areca nut fiber on the characteristics of the paper produced, as well as to obtain the correct comparison between frond fiber and areca nut fiber which produces good quality paper. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 1 treatment factor consisting of 5 levels of treatment comparison of raw materials for areca palm fiber and areca fiber, namely (0% : 100%, 25% : 75%, 50% : 50%, 75 % : 25%, 100% : 0%) with 4 repetitions to obtain 20 experimental units. Data analysis uses Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), if the results are significantly different then further tests are carried out using the Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) method. The results of the research showed that the ratio of areca palm sheath fiber and areca coir fiber had a significant effect on fiber moisture content, fiber yield, fiber hemicellulose content, fiber lignin content, fiber cellulose content, fiber ash content, paper water content, paper tensile resistance and paper tear resistance. However, it does not have a real effect on the grammage value of the paper and the thickness of the paper. The characteristics of fiber and paper produced from areca nut fronds and areca husks are fiber moisture content 5.8-7%, fiber yield 29.7-47.8%, fiber hemicellulose content 15.4-25.8%, fiber lignin content 19.4-38.3%, cellulose content 18.3-48.9%, paper moisture content 4.0-6.1%, grammage 63.9-68.9g/m2, paper thickness 0.162-0.211 mm , the tensile resistance of paper is 0.01-0.05 kN/m, and the tear resistance of paper is 108.4-187.3 mN.
