Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out strategies the teachers used in teaching speaking toward eighth graders of Junior High School in Jambi city. The theoretical framework of Teaching Strategies in speaking was used to guide this study. The data were collected through classroom observation and open-ended interview. This study involved five teachers in several Junior High School Jambi who taught English subject in eighth grader. These participants was selected through purposive sampling. Based on the data it was indicated the most of participants used direct teaching strategy and cooperative learning strategy.
