Abstract
Abstract Background: Feed sources of fiber can come from agricultural and agroindustrial waste such as rice straw, oil palm decanter meal and bagasse. The availability of this feed is quite abundant and has the potential to be used as feed. This utilization needs to be evaluated for its gas profile using in-vitro techniques. Objective: To obtain the best gas profile evaluation results including cumulative gas production, gas production potential (b), gas production rate (c), methane gas (CH4) and rumen pH from fibrous feed such as agricultural and agroindustrial waste using in vitro techniques. Methods: Preparation of samples of materials used such as kumpai grass (P0), rice straw (P1), oil palm decanter meal (P2) and bagasse (P3). Preparation for the implementation of the in-vitro method includes preparation of fermenter tubes, preparation of rumen inoculums, manufacture of anaerobic medium and incubation for 48 hours. Cumulative gas and methane measurements were made at incubation periods of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 24 and 48 hours. pH measurements are taken at the end of incubation and then saturated HgCl2 is applied to stop microbial activity in the fermenter tube. Results: Based on the results of the study, each treatment had a real effect (P<0.05) on cumulative gas production, gas production potential (b), gas production rate (c), methane gas production and rumen pH. Conclusion: This study can be concluded that each treatment has a variable gas production but the highest cumulative gas production value, methane gas production and gas production potential (b) are owned by P0 and followed by P3. The highest gas production rate (c) is owned by P3. The highest rumen pH is owned by P2. So that the gas profile that has the best value is P3.
