Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Adolescents often face significant physical, biological, and psychological challenges, leading to deviations such as bullying behavior. Parenting styles and social support are influencing factors in bullying behavior, where inadequate parenting styles and social support can contribute to its occurrence. This study aimed to determine the relationship between parenting styles, social support, and bullying behavior among junior high school students in SMP Negeri 17 Kota Jambi. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 293 students, and a simple random sampling technique yielded a sample of 110 participants. Instruments used included the PSDQ (Parenting Style and Dimension Questionnaire), MSPSS (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support), and the Indonesian version of the APRI (Adolescent Peer Relations Instrument). Univariate analysis was conducted using frequency distributions, while bivariate analysis utilized Kendall’s Tau test. Results: The analysis revealed a significant relationship between parenting styles and bullying behavior with a p-value of < 0.041. Additionally, there was a significant relationship between social support and bullying behavior with a p-value of < 0.016. Conclusion: There is a relationship between parenting styles, social support, and bullying behavior among adolescents. This study's findings are expected to serve as a reference and contribute to understanding the relationship between parenting styles, social support, and bullying behavior among junior high school students in SMP Negeri 17 Kota Jambi.
