Abstract

ABSTRACT Lestari, T.D. (2018). Students’ Attitude Toward Learning Writing Skill at English Education Program of Faculty in Teacher Training and Education Jambi University. Thesis. English Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2018/2019.The First Supervisor is Drs. Makmur, S.E., M.Hum., M.A. The Second Supervisor is Yulhenli Thabran, S.S., M.A. Key words: attitude, writing, case study Learning writing is one of topics that students must study when they skill in university level, and this type of writing has some features, it is aimed to describe and reveal a particular person, place or thing. The method of this research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. In collecting the data, the researcher used demographic profile questionnaire and interview. The participants of this research were six of fifth-semester students at English Education Program of Faculty in Teacher Training and Education Jambi University whose the writing’s grade at least B on the last semester. The finding showed that the students’ attitude toward learning writing is a positive in term of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive attitude. Their positive behavioral attitude comes from to what they did when they get problem in learning writing for example like, finding the word in online dictionaries, asking their lecturer, or sharing with friends. Interestingly, the participants in this research did not show negative attitude related to emotional attitude for example to dislike the writing subject. Then, for the cognitive attitude come from the students’ mind since they have their own reason to choose English Education Study Program, and the expectation to it. This encourages the students who chosen as the participants in this research want to do a positive attitude toward learning writing.
