Abstract
Depati Karo Jayo Tuo Customary Forest (HA) is a customary forest managed for generations by the customary law community of the Serampas clan located in Rantau Kermas Village, Jangkat District, Merangin Regency, Jambi Province. This forest is divided into two blocks, namely the north and south which have a typical Sumatran ecosystem and high biodiversity. Lepidoptera is one of the orders that plays a role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and as a pollinator of various plant species. This study aims to determine the diversity and differences of butterfly species (Lepidoptera) in various habitat characteristics in the Depati Karo Jayo Tuo Customary Forest. The research was conducted with samples taken from two stations, namely the North Block (Station I) and the South Block (Station II). Each station is divided into two substations that are differentiated by canopy cover and near the water flow. Butterfly observation was carried out directly by the time search method for 30 minutes for each plot. The butterflies that have been caught will be photographed and then identified. Samples that cannot be identified, will be pressed on the thoracic part and then stored, then the resulting photos are identified and further data analyzed at the Laboratory of the Department of MIPA FST UNJA. The results of this study showed that the diversity of butterfly species in the southern block of customary forests was higher than that of the northern block. The 67 individuals found butterflies consist of 30 species (6 families). Of the species, 15 species were found in the southern block and 20 species were found in the northern block. The similarity index of species composition of the two forest blocks was 0.27. The Nymphalidae family is the most found (20 species), Lycaenidae (4 species), Hesperiidae and Pieridae (2 species), while Papilionidae and Riodinidae have only 1 species each. Butterfly species tend to be found more in open canopy habitats. In addition, butterflies are also more commonly found in terrestrial areas compared to areas near water flows, both in the north and south.
