Abstract

Attitude is an important concept to understand human behaviour toward something. Self-directed based learning is a learning concept where the students are motivated by their personal responsibility to choose what is worth to learn. The present study investigated students’ attitude toward self-directed based learning in Reading for General Purposes Course. There were 28 students from first semester, class of 2018/2019 in English education program were chosen as the participants based on the class that applied self-directed based learning. The findings revealed that there were three different attitude from the students toward self-directed based learning in Reading for General Purpose Course, positive, very positive, and negative. Very positive attitude are considered as the most dominant attitude the result of the findings. In the discussion, the researcher analyze an interesting result found in students’ self-monitoring. According to the result, students belief in self-monitoring is positive, otherwise students’ behaviour in self-monitoring is negative. It is caused by the students’ previous educational background as high schools students which did not require them to self-monitor them selves in learning.
