Abstract
ABSTRACT Background: Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) is a condition when Mycobacterium tuberculosis were resistant to isoniazid and rifampicin simultaneously, with or without being followed other first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs. Diabetes melitus is a health problem that causes immunosuppression, thus increasing the risk of MDR TB infection. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between diabetes mellitus and the incidence of multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis at Raden Mattaher Jambi Hospital. Methods: This research is an observational analytic method with a case control study design. The study subjects consisted of 64 Non-DM patients and 28 DM patients undergoing treatment at Raden Mattaher Jambi Hospital who were taken had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The results showed that Non-DM patients were more male (73.4%), were in the 36-45 year-aged category (28.1%), and more infected with Non-MDR pulmonary TB (67.2%). DM patients were male (63.0%), were in the 36-45 year-aged category (29.6%), and and more infected with MDR pulmonary TB (63.0%). The association between diabetes mellitus and the incidence of multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis was evaluated using the chi-square test, and the p-value of 0.008 indicated a significant association between the two variables. Conclusion: There is a significant association between diabetes melitus and the incidence of multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Tuberkulosis Multidrug-Resistant (TB MDR) adalah suatu kondisi ketika Mycobacterium tuberculosis resistan terhadap isoniazid dan Rifampisin secara bersamaan, dengan atau tanpa diikuti oleh obat anti tuberkulosis lini pertama lainnya. Diabetes mellitus merupakan masalah kesehatan yang menyebabkan immunosupresi, sehingga dapat meningkatkan risiko infeksi TB MDR. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara diabetes mellitus dengan kejadian tuberkulosis paru multidrug- resistant di RSUD Raden Mattaher Jambi. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian metode analitik observasional dengan desain penelitian case control study. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 64 pasien Non-DM dan 27 pasien DM yang menjalani pengobatan di RSUD Raden Mattaher Jambi yang diambil sesuai kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pasien Non-DM lebih banyak berjenis kelamin laki-laki (73,4%), kategori usia 36-45 tahun (28,1%), serta lebih banyak terinfeksi TB MDR paru Non-MDR (67,2%). Pada pasien DM di dapatkan pasien berjenis kelamin laki-laki (63,0%), kategori usia 36-45 tahun (29,6%), dan lebih banyak terinfeksi TB paru MDR (63,0%). Hubungan antara diabetes mellitus dengan kejadian tuberkulosis paru multidrug-resistant di evaluasi menggunakan uji chi-square, dan nilai p-value 0,008 menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara kedua variabel tersebut. Kesimpulan: Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara diabetes mellitus dengan kejadian tuberkulosis paru multidrug-resistant.
