Abstract

ABSTRACT Hutabarat, Uli Rizki. 2019. Academic Procrastination among Undergraduate Students on the Fifth Semester English Education Study Program Students at Jambi University. A Thesis of English Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, University of Jambi. The first supervisor: Amirul Mukminin, S.Pd., M.Sc., Ph.D. the second supervisor: Robi Soma, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to find out the assignment areas of academic procrastination and the factors that affect academic procrastination among undergraduate students on the fifth semester English education study program at Jambi University. The data were collected by using the survey questionnaire and were analyzed in term of descriptive statistics. This study involved 70 fifth semester English education study program students at Jambi University as the participants of the research. The 70 participants of this study divided into two different classes namely Regular 001 and Regular 002. The analysis of the data was based on the students’ responses to 56 statements from 2 different questionnaires. The first questionnaire consisted of 5 types of assignment areas of academic procrastination: writing a term paper, studying for exams, reading assignment, academic administrative task, and attendance task. The second questionnaire consisted of 8 types of factors that affect academic procrastination: fear of failure, anxiety, perfectionism, unconfident, perception, time management, fatigue, and environmental. The students responded picking any of five alternatives namely strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, and strongly disagree. The finding showed that studying for exams was the most assignment areas of academic procrastination with a percentage of 71.4% and fatigue factor was the most factor that affect academic procrastination on the fifth semester English education study program at Jambi University with a percentage 69.3%.
