Abstract

Indonesia is a country with high diversity, one of which is the diversity of reptile species (order Squamata). Sumatra Island is one of the islands in Indonesia that has high biodiversity and endemicity, the Marga Serampas Customary Forest is a tropical forest ecosystem in Sumatra which is thought to have a wealth of reptile species. This study aims to determine reptile species and analyze the biological index of reptile species (diversity index, evenness index, and species richness index) obtained in the Marga Serampas Customary Forest area, Merangin Regency. Data collection methods used a combination of active and passive methods. The combination of Visual Encounter Survey (VES) with Line Transect (observation path) in the active method and Gluetrap (Glue Trap) in the passive method. Data analysis used, namely diversity index (H'), evenness (E), and species richness (DMg). The results showed that there were 4 species of reptiles from the order Squamata, which were divided into two suborders, namely Ophidia (family Pareatidae), namely Asthenodipsas laevis and Asthenodipsas tropidonotus and Lacertilia (family Agamidae, namely Gonocephalus klossi and Aphaniotis sp) and (Scincidae, namely Eutropis multifasciata). The total number of individuals found was 12, with more distribution at terrestrial stations compared to aquatic stations. The diversity index (H') of 1.28 indicates moderate diversity which implies that the reptile community at the study site has a variety of species that is not too high, so the ecosystem tends to be stable, but not fully optimal in supporting species diversity, the evenness index (E) of 0, 80 indicates an even distribution of individuals meaning that no species significantly dominates the community, and the species richness index (DMg) of 1.74 indicates low species richness implying that the number of reptile species found at the site is limited, possibly influenced by environmental factors, the use of less effective methods, or other ecological pressures.
