Abstract
Risawetty manalu.2024.”The Use of TikTok Application for Teaching Pronunciation of Homonyms Words” Thesis. Department of English Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University, Supervisor Reny Heryanti,SS, M.Hum and Dr. Dra. Rosinta Norawati, Ma. This study examines the effectiveness of using TikTok to teach English pronunciation, particularly homonyms, to Indonesian students. The research addresses challenges in pronunciation due to the differences between English and Indonesian and explores how TikTok can help improve pronunciation. The research highlights TikTok's engaging platform, which provides examples of correct pronunciation, and its potential to address issues such as lack of motivation and limited resources.The population consists of 19 students, and the sample includes all XI A students. The method used in this research is pre-experimental. The instruments used were pre-tests and post-tests. The sampling technique applied in this research is purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed using Rubric Scoring and SPSS V30. The researcher concludes that there is a significant effect on students' pronunciation of homonym words after being taught using the TikTok application as a teaching media.This study examines the use of TikTok for teaching the pronunciation of homonym words and its impact on student learning outcomes. Pre-test and post-test results showed a significant improvement in students' scores, from 52.53 to 71.58, indicating that TikTok is an effective tool for enhancing pronunciation skills. The t-value indicated a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results, with a p-value of less than 0.05, supporting the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (H1). The very small p-value (< 0.001) further confirmed the significant impact of TikTok on improving students' pronunciation of homonyms.TikTok’s engaging format, which allows students to watch and listen to homonym pronunciations, promotes focus, creativity, and social interaction. Overall, TikTok is an effective and engaging medium for teaching English pronunciation, especially for homonyms. Keywords: TikTok, Teaching Pronunciation, Homonyms
