Abstract

HANIYAH SALWA 2025, Students’ Perspectives on the Emancipated Curriculum’s Impact on English Department Students’ Soft Skills and Hard Skills Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training Education of Universitas Jambi in academic year 2024/2025. The first supervisor is Dr. Nunung Fajaryani, S.Pd, M.Pd. The second supervisor is Lilik Ulfiati, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to explore the impact of the Emancipated Curriculum (MBKM) Program on the development of soft skills and hard skills among English Department students at Universitas Jambi. This study focuses on participants involved in Kampus Mengajar (KM) and Magang dan Studi Independen Bersertifikat (MSIB) batch 2 and 5. Researcher used qualitative methods, data were collected through online interviews and documentation with three participants English Department students who had been determined by the researcher using purposive sampling and asked them whether they would be willing to provide files containing additional reports for this research’s study. Interview questions consist of 10 questions with 3 sub-themes. The interview contains experiences from students who were actively involved in MBKM program especially in KM and MSIB activities. In analysing the data, the researcher used thematic analysis. The result of the data analysis reveals that the MBKM program significantly impacts both the soft skills and hard skills of English Department students at Universitas Jambi, with key themes such as communication, teamwork, leadership, self-awareness, teaching skills, technology proficiency, curriculum development, and project management.
