Abstract

This study aims to analyze the coalition patterns of political parties supporting the Maulana-Diza pair in the Jambi City Mayor and Deputy Mayor Election in 2024. The phenomenon of political party coalitions at the regional level shows a tendency towards pragmatism, where ideological considerations are not always the main basis for forming political alliances. In the context of Jambi City, the Maulana-Diza pair was carried by eight political parties that have diverse ideological backgrounds and mass bases, namely PAN, PKS, PKB, Golkar, Democrat, Perindo, PBB, and PSI. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews with regional head candidates, heads of supporting parties, and political observers, as well as documentation of relevant secondary data. The results showed that the process of coalition formation was influenced by the strength of candidate figures, electoral calculations, and strategic considerations of each party to obtain bargaining positions in local government. The coalition formed shows a pragmatic alliance pattern that is more oriented towards achieving electoral victory than the similarity of ideological platforms. This research contributes to the study of political science, especially in understanding the dynamics of coalitions at the local level and shows how political parties form a joint strategy to gain power in a multiparty democratic system.
