Abstract
ABSTRACT SAFITRI, 2019, Identifying Questioning Strategies Used by English Teachers during Classroom Interaction in One Public School in Jambi”. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2018/2019. The first supervisor is Dr. Yelia, M.Pd. The second supervisor is Robi Soma, S.Pd., M.Pd. Classroom is a place that takes activities of teaching and learning process between teacher and students where there are an interaction to share the information of knowledge. To promote interaction, questioning strategies is one of the strategies could be used by the teachers. The present study investigates types of questions and questioning strategies used by English teachers. There are three English teachers as the participants. Classroom observation and interview are used to collect the data. The findings reveal that the teacher posed type of questions and used some strategies to the students during classroom interaction. There are two type questions and six questioning strategies used by English teachers. Those two types of questions are knowledge and comprehension questions. While six questioning strategies used by English teachers are wait time, handling students’ response, reinforcement, probe, redirect and rephrasing strategy.
