Abstract

ABSTRAK Penggunaan baja lunak kini semakin meningkat di berbagai sektor industri karena sifat mekaniknya yang baik dan biaya yang relatif rendah. Namun, baja lunak memiliki kelemahan utama yaitu mudah mengalami korosi, terutama dalam lingkungan asam seperti asam sulfat. Salah satu solusi untuk mengatasi masalah ini adalah penggunaan inhibitor korosi. Penelitian ini menggunakan ekstrak kulit jengkol (Pithecellobium lobatum Benth.) sebagai inhibitor alami yang ramah lingkungan, dikombinasikan dengan Tween-80 sebagai surfaktan untuk meningkatkan efisiensi inhibisi. Penentuan efisiensi inhibisi dilakukan menggunakan metode kehilangan berat dengan variasi konsentrasi Tween-80 dan suhu larutan. Untuk mendukung hasil penelitian, dilakukan karakterisasi menggunakan Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) guna mengidentifikasi gugus fungsi dalam senyawa aktif pada permukaan baja serta Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) untuk mengamati perubahan morfologi permukaan baja sebelum dan sesudah perendaman dalam media korosif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi inhibisi ekstrak kulit jengkol dengan penambahan Tween-80 meningkat seiring meningkatnya konsentrasi dan mengalami penurunan seiring meningkatnya suhu. Analisis termodinamika menunjukkan bahwa nilai ΔGads negatif menandakan proses adsorpsi berlangsung spontan, nilai ΔHads negatif menunjukkan proses adsorpsi bersifat eksotermik, dan ΔSads negatif mengindikasikan bahwa adsorpsi mengalami penurunan derajat ketidakteraturan sistem ketika molekul inhibitor teradsorpsi ke permukaan baja lunak. Efisiensi inhibisi tertinggi diperoleh pada suhu 30°C (303 K) dengan inhibitor campuran ekstrak kulit Jengkol dan Tween-80 2,8%, mencapai nilai di atas 86,327%. Variasi nilai sinergetik terhadap kenaikan suhu menunjukkan pola yang tidak teratur, tanpa kecenderungan peningkatan atau penurunan yang konsisten. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa efek sinergetik dalam sistem inhibitor korosi baja lunak tidak sepenuhnya dipengaruhi oleh suhu. Nilai sinergetik yang tidak teratur dapat disebabkan beberapa faktor diantaranya yaitu oleh beperbedaan stabilitas senyawa aktif, kompetisi adsorpsi antar komponen inhibitor, serta perubahan sifat fisik larutan pada tiap suhu. Kata Kunci : Korosi, Baja, Asam Sulfat, Efisiensi Inhibisi, Ekstrak Kulit Jengkol (Pithecellobium lobatum Benth.) dan Termodinamika.   ABSTRACT The use of mild steel is steadily increasing across various industrial sectors due to its favorable mechanical properties and relatively low cost. However, mild steel has a major drawback it is highly prone to corrosion, especially in acidic environments such as sulfuric acid. One of the approaches to address this issue is the use of corrosion inhibitors. This study employs jengkol peel extract (Pithecellobium lobatum Benth.) as a natural and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor, combined with Tween-80 as a surfactant to enhance inhibition efficiency. The inhibition efficiency was determined using the weight loss method, with variations in Tween-80 concentration and solution temperature. To support the experimental findings, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was conducted to identify the functional groups of active compounds adsorbed on the steel surface, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used to observe morphological changes of the mild steel surface before and after immersion in the corrosive medium. The results indicated that the inhibition efficiency of jengkol peel extract with the addition of Tween-80 increased with higher concentrations but decreased as the temperature rose. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the negative ΔGads value indicates a spontaneous adsorption process, the negative ΔHads value indicates an exothermic reaction, and the negative ΔSads value suggests a decrease in system disorder as inhibitor molecules are adsorbed onto the mild steel surface. The highest inhibition efficiency was observed at 30°C (303 K) using a mixed inhibitor of jengkol peel extract and 2.8% Tween-80, reaching 86.327%. The variation in synergistic values with increasing temperature showed an irregular pattern, with no consistent trend of increase or decrease. This indicates that the synergistic effect in the corrosion inhibition system for mild steel is not entirely influenced by temperature. The irregularity in synergistic values may be attributed to several factors, including differences in the stability of active compounds, competitive adsorption among inhibitor components, and changes in the physical properties of the solution at each temperature.
