Abstract

ABSTRACT Andini, T. 2025, The Correlation between Teachers' Strategies in Using Audio-Visual Media and Student Interest toward Listening Comprehension Achievement. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Jambi in Academic Year, 2024/2025. First advisor is Prof. Hadiyanto, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. and the second advisor is Dr.Masbirorotni,S.Pd,M.Sc.Ed. Keywords: Audio-visual media, teaching strategies, student interest, listening comprehension This research investigates the correlation between teachers’ strategies in using audio-visual media and students’ interest in listening comprehension achievement. It applied a quantitative method with a correlational design. The participants were second- and fourth-semester English Education students at Jambi University in 2025. Data were gathered through a questionnaire distributed via Google Form. The study aimed to discover whether teachers’ use of audio-visual media could boost students’ interest and improve their listening performance. Results showed that students who believed their teachers used engaging and effective audio-visual strategies were more interested in listening tasks. A positive correlation was found between teachers’ media use and students’ listening comprehension scores. In contrast, students who perceived listening as difficult tended to achieve lower scores. Although many students expressed interest and recognized the benefits of audio-visual media, these factors alone did not directly improve listening outcomes. Overall, the study emphasizes the role of teaching strategies in increasing student motivation and improving listening achievement in English language classrooms.
