Abstract

This study aims to identify the strategies used by English Education students at Jambi University, class of 2021, to improve their self-confidence when speaking English, as well as how they apply these strategies. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with three students who had high levels of confidence based on the results of a questionnaire analyzed using Wallizer's formula (1990). The findings of this study show that students used various strategies, including creating safe environment such as joining English language communities and speaking with peers, engaging in self practice such as self-talk and practice pronunciation, preparing beforehand by creating outlines and understanding the topic, and positive thinking by not fearing mistakes. These strategies help students become more confident when speaking in the classroom. Keywords: Self-confidence, Speaking Strategies, English Language Education Students.
