Abstract
This study aims to explore the translation methods used by English Education students in Universitas Jambi in translating an English Short Story and the difficulties they faced during the translation process. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The population in this study was 17 students of English Education who took Translation and Interpretation class. From those 17 students, 8 of them were chosen to have an interview in order to find the data about students’ difficulties. The results show that English Education students use various translation methods in translating an English short story. From the data analysis, it was found that the most frequently used translation method among the students was free translation with 80 sententes out of 221 sentences, followed by faithful translation with 41 sentences, communicative translation with 36 sentences, semantic and adaptation translation with 33 sentences and literal translation with 32 sentences.
