Abstract

Kata Kunci: Keramik, Siginjei, Etnoarkeologi, Fungsi, Kontemporer ABSTRACT This research discusses the collection of ceramic bowls at the Siginjei Museum, Jambi Province, most of which originate from the Muaro Jambi area. The main research problems are to identify the types of ceramic bowls stored in the museum and to analyze the variations in their functions and uses from the past to the present era. The purpose of this study is to classify the types and decorative motifs of the ceramic bowls and to examine the transformation of their functions and meanings within the community context. This research employs an ethnoarchaeological approach with descriptive qualitative methods. The stages include collecting primary data through direct observation of the ceramic bowl collection in the museum storage, photographic documentation, and interviews with museum staff and residents of Muaro Jambi Village. Secondary data were obtained from literature studies to support the analysis. The results show that the ceramic bowls in the Siginjei Museum mostly originate from the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, characterized by glazed porcelain and stoneware with floral, faunal, geometric, and abstract motifs. The findings reveal a continuity of function between the ceramic bowls preserved in the museum and those still used by the Muaro Jambi community, such as for food containers, latex containers, ashtrays, and decorative items. This demonstrates the transformation of the function and meaning of ceramic bowls from historical artifacts to living artifacts, which are relevant to be studied through an ethnoarchaeological perspective.
