Abstract

Beef cattle farming is a key sector that can contribute to increasing rural income. In Senyerang District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, this potential remains underutilized. Several constraints are still present, such as limited access to capital, feed supply, government involvement, land availability, and sociocultural conditions. Therefore, it is essential to determine the extent of farmers' interest in managing beef cattle farming. This study aims to describe the level of farmers’ interest in beef cattle farming by examining six main components: economic value, capital, feed, land, sociocultural aspects, and government role. The research was conducted in April 2025 using a survey method with a descriptive quantitative approach. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire (1–3) and analyzed descriptively. A total of 52 respondents were selected using purposive sampling, based on the criteria of having received government assistance in the form of cattle between 2010 and 2025. The results revealed that farmers' interest level was high. Economic benefits, ease of accessing feed, and land adequacy were the most positively perceived elements. The long-standing livestock-rearing tradition within the community also plays a significant role in maintaining the continuity of this activity. Nevertheless, some farmers continue to experience capital-related challenges. In conclusion, farmers in Senyerang District show strong interest in beef cattle farming. These findings can serve as a valuable reference for stakeholders in identifying local potential and supporting the sustainable development of livestock farming in the region.
