Abstract

This research aimed to determine whether collaborative reading strategy can improve reading comprehension in narrative text. The subjects of this study were students of class VIIIF SMP N 7 Kota Jambi which consist of 29 students. This study used classroom action research (CAR) consisting of 2 cycles. The results of this study indicate that the application of collaborative Reading Strategy makes students more interested in learning and can improve students' reading comprehension in English texts, especially narrative texts. In addition, participation and interaction between students also increased. The results of this study increase are also proven by quantitative data showing that in the pre-test only 27% or 8 students passed the KKM. However, in post-test 1 it increased to 41.3% or 12 students passed the KKM. And in post-test 2 it increased to 72% or 21 students passed the KKM. So, it can be concluded that collaborative reading strategy can improve reading comprehension in narrative texts.
