Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The development of digital technology has made online games more accessible. However, excessive use can lead to addiction, which may negatively affect students’ cognitive function, especially those actively involved in university E-Sports organizations. This study aims to examine the relationship between the level of online game addiction and cognitive function among members of the E-Sports Student Activity Unit at Universitas Jambi. Methods: This research is a quantitative study with a correlational approach. A total of 66 respondents were selected using proporsionate stratified random sampling. The instruments used were the GASA (Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents) and MoCA-Ina (Indonesian version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment) to assess online game addiction and cognitive function. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rho test. Results: Most respondents showed a moderate level of online game addiction (37.9%) and normal cognitive function (65.2%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between online game addiction and cognitive function, with a p-value < 0.05 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.784. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between online game addiction and students’ cognitive function. The higher the level of addiction, the lower the cognitive function. It is recommended to provide education on time management and the risks of game addiction, as well as campus counseling support to help students balance entertainment and academic responsibilities. Keywords: Cognitive function, online game addiction, university students   ABSTRAK Latar belakang : Perkembangan teknologi digital telah mempermudah akses terhadap game online.
