Abstract
Indonesia is a country rich in livestock resources, one of which is the Etawah crossbreed (PE) goat. Feed consumption in goats is influenced by energy and protein content. High-quality feed provides better blood nutrition and correlates with the milk synthesis process, thereby improving milk quality. One potential feed additive is mangkokan (Nothopanax scutellarium) leaves. These leaves contain flavonoid compounds that have anti-inflammatory effects, particularly in alleviating udder inflammation. This study aimed to determine the effect of adding protected mangkokan leaves on the milk quality of Etawah crossbreed (PE) goats. A total of 12 lactating PE goats were used in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were: P0 (20 g/head unprotected mangkokan leaves), P1 (20 g/head mangkokan leaves protected with capsules), P2 (20 g/head mangkokan leaves protected with tannins), and P3 (20g/head mangkokan leaves protected with saponins). Observed parameters included milk protein content, fat content, and specific gravity. The results showed that protected mangkokan leaf treatment had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on milk protein content, with P2 yielding the highest protein level (3.76%). However, the treatment had no significant effect (P>0.05) on milk fat content and specific gravity. The average milk fat content was 5.29%, and the average specific gravity was 1.029. In conclusion, mangkokan leaves protected with tannins can be an effective strategy to increase the protein content of PE goat milk, although they do not significantly affect fat content and specific gravity
