Abstract

This research aimed to explore the lived experience of English education master’s students’ challenges and strategies during publication process. The research utilized a qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The participants in this research were seven English education master’s students in a university of Jambi who have published article in Sinta indexed journals. The researcher used purposive sampling to select the appropriate participants based on the criteria. To obtain data, the researcher interviewed the participants. In analyzing the data, the researcher used thematic analysis. The results of this research indicated that English education master’s students experienced some challenges when publishing articles, which were divided into two themes: internal challenges factors (language barrier, lack of funding, lack of writing knowledge, lack of motivation, anxiety, finding relevant journal, poor time management, and struggling to understand reviewers’ comments) and external challenges factors (time-consuming and plagiarism). To overcome those challenges, the participants employed some strategies that consist of self-management strategies (reading articles consistently and time management), getting help from others (attending academic events, supervisor support, and peer support), and technological support (AI application, paraphrasing application, referencing application, checking similarity application, and language support application).
