Abstract

English as one of International language has an important role in daily lives. It is acknowledge not only as means of communication, but also as scientific language. The purposes of this research are to investigate students’ vocabulary mastery level. The method and design used in this research were descriptive quantitative design. To gather the data, the multiple choice test was conducted. The multiple choice test are made by the researcher based on the curriculum. There were 29 first grade students of VII D Class in SMP Negeri 7 Muaro Jambi participated. This data lead to the following results: the multiple choice test data or the result of the students mastery in vocabulary revealed that the students were divided into merely three levels, high average, average and low average, precisely, 10 students were in high average, 6 students were in average, and 13 students were in low average.
