Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate a significant difference toward students’ reading comprehension score before and after being taught by using cognitive conflict strategy at SMPN 14 Kota Jambi. The sample of this study is the students of A class eighth graders consist of 35 students. The method used in this study is pre experimental design with a quantitative approach. Reading tests and Students’ worksheet are used as the instruments in collecting the data. Paired T-Test is used to analyze the data. The result shows that there is an improvement between the pre-test (64,00) and the post-test (82,29). In interpreting the data is done by comparing the value of tcount and ttable with a significant level of 5% is 2.032 where the tcount is 13.02. It means tcount > ttable = 13,02 > 2,03 , it can be said that there is a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension score before and after being taugth by using cognitive conflict strategy. In other words, Null Hypothesis (Ho) of this research is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) of this research is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a positive effect of cognitive conflict strategy in students’ reading comprehension score. key words : Cognitive Conflict Strategy, Reading Comprehension
