Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out junior high school teachers’ perceptions toward the importance of pedagogical competence in teaching English at MGMP ((Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran) Muaro Jambi Gugus 3. The data were collected by using the survey questionnaire and were analyzed in terms of descriptive statistics. This study involved 24 English teachers Gugus 3 as the participants of the research. The analysis of the data based on the teachers’ responses to 30 statements that consisted of five indicators such as: wide comprehensive to the learners, designing learning, understanding the basis of education for the importance of learning, conducting learning process, designing and implementing the evaluation of learning, developing learners to actualize different potentials. The analysis data was quatitative method. The results of the data analysis showed that 89.4% English teachers responded postively and gave good perception of each statement on the questionnaire that was distributed by the researcher.
