Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative research are to know (1)the techniques are used in teaching speaking English at English Educational Center,Tebing Tinggi, Tungkal Ulu,(2) the students’ responses toward the techniques used by the teacher in teaching speaking skill. The subject of this research were the teacher and the students of EEC course. The researcher used observation and interview. To analyzed the data the researcher reduced and displayed the data. The results of this research show that technique used by the teacher are, discussion technique, role play technique,simulation technique, and picture describing technique. The process of observation activities are opening, main activity, and closing. The material is given to the students made by the teacher himself. The results of student interviews to the techniques taught express a positive attitude when they respond that the learning techniques help them to speak, as well as the participant's oral production of students is emphasized. The students do not only learn and practice in theory but emphasize in practice using some techniques especially in speaking skill to communicate and interact with others.
